At the BCM, we have three ministers who are here to serve our needs and
act like surrogate-parents to each and every one of us. They each have
different qualities enabling them to lead us in different aspects of
ministry. If you ever need a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on, the
campus ministers are always here for you. And feel free to come by if
you ever want to have a friendly chat, go to lunch, or even just goof
off!
Franklin Scott
is our Senior Campus Minister. He is married to Georgia, a math
teacher at Clarke Central High School. He has two daughters, Shelynn
(25) and Stacey (20). He is a graduate of Francis Marion College and
received his Masters of Divinity from Southern Baptist Theological
Seminary. He coaches a BCM girls' basketball team, and the team has
won campus-wide intramural tournaments two out of the past three
years. Franklin is the resident "Dr. Luv," the matchmaker of the
BCM.
Feel free to come to him with all of your relationship problems!

Nathan Byrd
is in his eighth year serving at UGA. Before
coming to us, he was the "Missions Guy" for the Georgia Baptist
Convention Collegiate Ministries Department. He is married to Karen,
his high school sweetheart. She teaches 8th grade Georgia History in
Walton County. His greatest joy and blessing is being a dad to Natalie
(9), Nicholas (8), and Karlie (born 2/15/06). He was an art major at
Georgia Southern University and received his Masters of Divinity from
the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He
is now working on his PhD in adult education at the University of
Georgia. His hobbies include pottery, cooking, running, reading (just
check out all of the books in his office!), and being a handyman
around his house. Nathan also has his own blog at
natedawg3.blogspot.com

Karen Shumaker is our newest Campus
Minister. This is our third year with us, and we are so excited to
have her! She is a graduate of
University of AR, where she was a nursing major. She went on to
graduate from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a masters
in religious education. She claims she's an avid Razorback fan, but we
will make sure she learns to love the Dawgs as well!! She also enjoys
cooking, reading, (talking about) running, chocolate, hiking,
mountains, and watching movies

Gini Bell
is our intern at the
BCM. She is a graduate of the University of Georgia, where she earned her degree
in Special Education. She is currently pursuing her master's in Special
Education here at UGA. She loves to work with children with disabilities and
plans to become a teacher. She sees her mission field as working in public
education. She also has a heart for people in general and seeks to be used
wherever God wants her. She enjoys hanging out with family and friends, anything
to do with sports, arts and crafts, photography, reading, and much more! |
Rhonda
Sorrow (Administrative Secretary)
Rhonda Sorrow has been the Administrative Assistant at the
BCM (BSU to many) since 1988. She's been married to her best friend,
Matt, since 1991. He's General Manager for Rick's First Generation
Camaros. They have two sons Thomas (1/7/98) and Eli (11/12/99). They
are members of East Athens Baptist Church where they serve as College
Ministry Leaders and if you're looking for a church home away from
home, they would love to have you join their church family. Rhonda
also serves as Commander for their AWANA Kid's Ministry. In her free
time when she is not at some field or court watching her three boys
participate or play ball of some type, she enjoys singing, decorating
and scrap booking. She's been known to give some pretty awesome hugs,
so if you ever need a hug from your mom and she's too far away, stop
by the BCM office, stand in front of Rhonda's desk with your arms
outstretched and she'll know what to do!
Lee Hunter (Buildings & Grounds Manager)
Lee Hunter has served as our Building and Grounds Manager for 13
years. He is married to Dianne, who currently works at Rocky
Branch Elementary School
in their cafeteria. Lee is also a bi-vocational minister who
serves as pastor of Academy Baptist Church located in Commerce.
Lee and Dianne have one daughter, Rhonda Sorrow, who will not let
them tell her age. While Lee loves his daughter dearly and loves
working with her at the BCM, he’s much more infatuated with his
grandsons, Thomas and Eli. Mr. Lee is also the resident chef of
the BCM and is famous for his poppy seed chicken! Come and test
his culinary skills for yourself at our BCM Wednesday lunches. Mr.
Lee is an awesome handyman and enjoys woodworking, golf and
fishing in his spare time.
